SCUD - Writer/Producer/Director of AMPHETAMINE

LAWRENCE LAU - Executive Director

A CANDID INTERVIEW WITH SCUD, FILM DIRECTOR

SCUD could be the kind of director whose works would be as profound and enduring as that of surrealism, or cubism on painting.

Or at least, this is how I feel.

He aspires for creative freedom fearlessly, without sanctions,

and he pursues his artistic vision with a relentless fervor.

I found this article on Director SCUD, the SAME DIRECTOR OF MY FIRST FILM. You can read more here about his third film Amphetamines. I am so very proud to contribute my work to his 5th film The Voyage, currently in Post-production. This earlier film of his, Amphetamines, was one of him most internationally renowned films, nominated for even a Teddy by Berlin. Enjoy.

I Am Writing A Song “Let’s Get One Thing Straight”

It’s 7AM. I haven’t slept, for the same reason I haven’t slept much in the last month. Lately, my life belongs to a song.

I can’t begin to explain this song in any way that makes much sense, let alone why I care so much about it. I picked a funny time to try. :-)

At the age of 14–the most insecure age of my entire laugh–I started writing this song. It wasn’t dark or emo. I was. This song was everything else, the person I wanted to be in the world I wanted to live in. It was escapism. You know how Glee takes the most serious scenarios, constructs a thousand other unrealistic scenarios around it, and all those other distractions keep you laughing at what might otherwise make you cry? That’s my song. Though, mine is a little less PG, much more crazy.

I don’t just assume this little creation of mine will make people feel better about themselves. I know it will. By the same token, it will make people hate me, hopefully even an institution or two. I delve into so many art forms, soon too the art of “Deadma.”

Truth be told, I just want to make you smile. I think that’s as noble as any cause in this world.

I cannot make things that hurt you go away. But I can bring you into my parallel universe, soon enough.

Mahal na mahal ko kayo.    ;)

Night my Sebsters.

Viddy: The Future of Social Media is Video

Being the fan of social media I am, I love to share my social media predictions. Off all the up-coming applications/social media companies that are sprouting up, I believe Viddy has got it going on!

What’s Viddy?

A video Apple Application, capturing only 15 seconds of video for immediate file sharing on Twitter/FB.

Viddy has been dubbed the instagram of video. On one hand, that’s a fitting title; Viddy is after all an apple application with the same basic principles that made Instagram so popular. On the other hand, Viddy may very well be the new Video of twitter. Like both Instagram and Twitter, Viddy is all about limiting you. Instagram has its one picture-at-a-time limit. Twitter has you at 140 characters. Now, Viddy cuts you off with 15-seconds of Video AND AUDIO.

Why does Sebastian think Viddy is more a future Twitter than an Instagram?–because what a person can tweet in 140 characters, he can say out loud and show in 15 seconds.

Why Viddy Will Kick Some Social Media Butt?

Facebook was a revolution for it’s time. The concept of connecting with the people you know online was “new” not so long ago. But now that we’re more connected than ever, our “information age” might be better dubbed “age information overload.” There is nothing any longer fascinating about the every detail of your every friends’ life. Most people want to see the cutest photos of their friend’s wedding without the three hours it takes to browse through the  three hundred photos he uploaded on Facebook. This of course is the beauty of twitter, instagram, and soon Viddy–it cuts people off; while still leaving people wanting more.

Limiting someone’s words to 140 characters may not turn everything that person has to say into rock solid gold, but it sure does make it easier digesting all the information out there.

Viddy’s got some firework potential! It’s twitter-esque! It’s brand-spanking new! And, a very few celebrities are starting to jump on board. Check it owt !! ;)

OFFICIAL: Anne Curtis In Hollywood Film Titled “Blood Ransom”

Finally, it is official as it’s ever going to be! Anne Curtis landed a Hollywood film with the current working title, “Blood Ransom.” Production is in the works! The details, the fact vs fiction, and the hype are all below.

Quick Recap

On May 23, she announced her departure out the country and bid all Show Time viewers goodbye. With all the optimism in the world, she hinted good projects were in store!

Just two weeks ago, Ogie Diaz broke the news early. His tweets read:

Twitter buzzed and Anne Curtis denied Ogie’s statement, saying, “Mali po kayo.” It turns out Ogie Diaz was correct on both fronts. So is Anne the liar? Anne, being Anne, had this to say.

Word!! ;) More twitter buzz:

Facts VS Fiction

1) The first tweet Anne sent out to announce her film

2) These are the only images Anne has retweeted so far

3) The film is not a film adaptation of Sophie McKenzie’s novel of the same title.

4) She is not the only Filipino(a) in the film. There is more. The official list of the entire cast is right here (Click for Link).

I am the happiest pickle in the world. Go Anne!

Note: This story just broke out less than an hour since Anne’s announcement. Details are still fresh. Come back for live updates! Comments below, peeps! ;)

Pilipino Kuno 2.0

As you might have noticed, I’ve been changing up my profile pics and background images on my social media–Facebook, twitter, and PilipinoKuno included. I’ve changed this background to something more in tune with my film project, The Voyage (2012). Here are snapshots.

Still, I’m not 100% sure this “Pilipino Kuno” background is what I’m looking for. I may have just become so used to my last one; I might just switch it back. Either way, you decide, vote, and I’ll just sleep on it. Which background do you prefer? The last one or this one?

Whether or not I keep this background for Pilipino Kuno, I have officially changed the background of my twitter page with the same concept. You can check it out here.

I Jumped on a Plane. Again.

I jumped on a plane again. Couldn’t help myself. So, where am I heading?

This time around, the objective is somewhere “small.” I’ve spent most my lifetime vying for big cities. I thought I might as well try the “road less traveled by,” a.k.a. the flight less booked.

I promised you a post every day. Here it is. I  dedicate this blog to my all-time favorite travel quotes/tweets . I can’t think of a better time to share them than while sitting somewhere in the sky.

Travel

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” –St. Augustine

“A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.” –John Steinbeck

“All travel has its advantages. If the passenger visits better countries, he may learn to improve his own. And if fortune carries him to worse, he may learn to enjoy it.” –Samuel Johnson

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” –Henry Miller

“Tourists don’t know where they’ve been, travelers don’t know where they’re going.” –Paul Theroux

I haven’t decided yet if I’ll tell you where I’m going, but I will tell you–I plan to be back with my blood by Monday. Baby diapers await.

Experiencing Hong Kong !! !

I came to Hong Kong primarily to act in and make art for the The Voyage (2012). Read more here.

For the first week and a half there, I spent practically every day on the art. I didn’t actually spend much time seeing Hong Kong, until after the filming in Amsterdam and Hanover. So it wasn’t until flying back to Hong Kong for the second time on this plane-hopping journey that I actually got to see Hong Kong. And here it is.

While in Hong Kong the first time around, this is all I did–art.

The second time around, I explore the hustle and bustle.

“Shopping Capital of Asia” or so I hear

“The capital of efficiency” This I see. Everywhere.

Scud invites us out on a boat trip. And, this is his boat.

Hong Kong Bay

We leave big boat. We ride small boat. I smile.

We land. We’re hungry.

We point at things.

We eat them.

We come back.

I eat snake. It’s even better than it looks!

Plenty for everyone!

It’s my last morning in HK.

Climbing up

Beautiful

At peace with the universe, HK’s universe

BLOG ANNOUNCEMENT + Snapshot of the Day

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT

I haven’t said this sooner only because I didn’t want to make a promise I couldn’t keep. I tend to keep the direction of my life random, much like the direction of my art and the direction I travel. So this was not a promise I’m making easily but I do promise it all the same.

Being of sound mind and body, I, Sebastian Castro, hereby promise to release some of my random on this here PilipinoKuno blog every single day. Tignan mo. It’s official. Nagpapromise kita:

I promise you at least something new, every single day. Whether I’m at home, Manila, Tokyo, South America or sleeping in the corner of some airport parang homeless guy ulit. I’ll give you something, even if that something is a snapshot of me snoozing in an airport.

NOTE: My promise has an expiration date. 30 Days. Which means on June 27th, I’ll be partying. :D

Camera Still from The Voyage

Anne Curtis Lands First Hollywood Film?

No doubt about it, Anne Curtis’ is on fire. Just last month, Anne had the privilege of donning Francis Libiran pieces for America’s Next Top Model. America’s Next Top Model, otherwise known as one of the most broadcasted fashion/modeling TV series in existence with a presence in not only the US but in over 170 countries/regions.

In Francis’ own words, “I picked Anne for this photo shoot; because for me, she represents the perfect Filipina.” Amen.

Before we talk more of Anne in Hollywood, let’s pay a little Anne and Francis tribute. After all, they’ve both already made a Hollywood splash. A quick walk down memory lane:

Hollywood Film for Anne?

Now, it looks like Anne is on to more in the international arena, like say a “full-length role” in a Hollywood film. At least, that’s what Ogie Diaz had to say on Twitter. The exact conversation:

Whether Ogies’ source is valid or not, his words became the talk of twitter and caught the eyes of more than one news source.

ABS-CBN News have echoed some speculation themselves, acknowledging it isn’t more than just that. Yet!

Looks like we’ll have to wait and see before we know anything for sure.

Anne Promises to Return

Anne made news of her departure via Show Time. As soon as she told us she was leaving, she made sure we knew she was coming back. As ABS had to say,

“I was so emotional because I made a special announcement that I will be leaving for a month. Kaya ako naiyak kasi super effort sila, may pa-fiesta pa, send-off party, so nakakatuwa,” Curtis said.

“It’s something to do with pursuing my dream. It’s a new chapter in my life, something that’s challenging. I just really, really want to do it,” she added.

Meanwhile, Curtis assured her fans that she will come back soon.

“Babalik ako, may teleserye pa akong tatapusin, may pelikula pa akong tatapusin. I really have to come back, may contrata ako so kailangan kong bumalik,” she said.

One things for sure, she won’t leave her fans hanging.

Literally only a couple hours before I published this blog, Filipino Blogger Bryan Boy was announced the next season judge of America’s Next Top Model. Once again, Filipinos make an international splash for Fashion.
